Ephyre Child Safety Standards

Last updated 21 October 2026

Ephyre has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). Ephyre is only for adults 18 and older, and these standards apply to every account, profile, photo and message on it.

What is prohibited

On Ephyre, and in any meeting arranged through it, nobody may:

  • Create, share, ask for, store or link to child sexual abuse material (CSAM), including drawn, edited or AI-generated images.
  • Groom a child, or use Ephyre to contact, befriend or arrange to meet anyone under 18.
  • Sexualise a child in words or images, or offer, advertise or arrange the sexual exploitation or trafficking of a child.
  • Threaten to share sexual images of anyone under 18 (sextortion).
  • Use Ephyre while under 18.

How to report

  • In the app: report a person from their profile or a chat, and choose "Child safety". The report includes a copy of the chat's recent messages so we can act on it.
  • By email: childsafety@ephyre.app, which anyone can use, with or without an account.
  • If a child is in immediate danger, contact local police or emergency services first.

How we respond

  1. We review child safety reports before all others.
  2. We remove the content and permanently ban the account, and any account we link to the same person.
  3. We preserve the evidence securely, separate from normal reports, for the police.
  4. We report confirmed CSAM, and the details of the person who shared it, to the South African Police Service, to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) through its CyberTipline where US users or content are involved, and to any other authority the law of the country concerned requires.
  5. We cooperate with law enforcement requests made under the law.
  6. We delete an account as soon as we learn it belongs to someone under 18.

Prevention

  • Ephyre is rated for adults only in the app stores, and every member must confirm they are 18 or older at sign-up.
  • Where an app store sends us an age signal, we use it to keep minors out.
  • Ephyre never creates Active Zones at schools, playgrounds or childcare centres. Family venues such as theme parks, zoos and aquariums can be zones, but only adults can use Ephyre there, and using Ephyre to approach a child at any venue breaks these standards and is reported as set out above.

Compliance and contact

Ephyre follows the child safety laws that apply to it, including South Africa's Films and Publications Act, and Google Play's Child Safety Standards policy.

Our child safety contact is Tristan Harris, at childsafety@ephyre.app.
